My 10-Minute Morning Engineering Reset

TL;DR

  • Ten minutes of prioritization can prevent a day of context switching.
  • Define what success looks like, check urgent signals, and choose only three meaningful tasks.
  • Mute distractions and begin with the deep-work task while your attention is fresh.

Some days I start fast and still feel scattered.

So I use this 10-minute reset before opening too many tabs.

#Minute 1-2

Write one sentence:
“If today goes well, what is done by evening?”

#Minute 3-5

Check active incidents and blocked threads.
If there is an urgent fire, the day plan changes immediately.

#Minute 6-8

Pick just 3 tasks:

  • one deep-work task
  • one collaboration task
  • one cleanup task

#Minute 9-10

Mute noise for 45 minutes and start the deep-work task first.

It sounds basic, but this tiny routine cuts context-switching and decision fatigue a lot.
